Deadly Adorable Predators

Orca or Orcinus orca is actually a part of dolphin family. That’s why they look alike with the common dolphin especially bottlenose dolphin. Most people see orca as a very adorable mammal because they usually watch these orcas doing performance. They look so loveable, friendly and playful animals as their white strip body and big smile-like mouth. 

However, what they don’t know is that Orcas weren't like that at all. For centuries, Orca has brought fears among mankind. Some people call them as the wolves of the sea, killer whales, fish tiger, and killing demons. Even their scientific name, Orcinus orca, comes from the mythical Orcus; the Roman god of death and the underworld, which was also known as a punisher. In North America, the indigenous Haida call them skana, which is a killer demon. The Aleut people call them polossatik, which means "feared one". Some people might this as a joke or prank and won’t believe it but its reputation turned out to be true since this creature can grows up to 7 to 9.7 meter and weight up to 5,443 kg which almost as big as a school bus. This carnivore mammal’s feast on seals and sea lions but there’s some cases that Orca has causing human death. 

For example the case of a SeaWorld trainer that has been killed by Orca. They are living up by the name of killer whale not because of their size but then this Orca also feed on whales. With teeth about 4 inches long, Orca also live and hunt with their pods up to 40 individuals.  What makes Orcas as the world’s most powerful predators is that they appeared as intelligent animals and all pods use effective, cooperative hunting techniques that somehow about the same with the wolf pack.
