Hippopotamus or its scientific name is Hippopotamus amphibious really love water which is why the Greeks called them “river horse”. These big guys would spend up to 16 hours a day just submerged in rivers and lakes in order to keep the enormous bodies cool under the hot climate of Africa. Even though in land looks quite heavy but in water, they are a very good swimmer and can even hold their breath up to 5 minutes. Although their weight around 2,268 to 3,629 kg, they can easily match a human’s speed for a short distances. So, please bear in mind not to provoke them when you are close to them, DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT. But don’t be afraid that they will chase you off and jumped over you, but beware of their great jaws. The hippo’s jaws applies 6 tons of pressure and crocodile on applies only 2 tons of pressure.
